The Portuguese Polar Program (PROPOLAR), with support from the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology, I.P. (FCT, I.P.), invites teams of national research institutions to submit applications for financial and/or logistic support for polar research projects in all scientific areas, for activities to be carried out between November 2021 and September 2022. PROPOLAR supports innovative and high-merit research proposals in all scientific areas which contribute to the advance of knowledge and that demonstrate potential impact on the national and international scientific system or on the development of new technologies.
Projects to be proposed are classified as Research projects with activities in polar regions (Type A and Type B) and Laboratory research projects in foreign institutions (Type C).
Applications may be submitted by research teams from the Portuguese Research and Innovation System, namely from academic institutions, their institutes and I&D centres, Associate Laboratories, Collaborative Laboratories (CoLabs), State laboratories, and non-profit and private Associations or Foundations. Projects must be coordinated by a researcher holding a PhD degree and must be completed by 30 September 2022.
PROPOLAR will fund travel expenses to a maximum of two researchers per project, but projects requiring logistical support for more members may be approved, depending on the results of the logistical and scientific evaluation. If funding is required for two researchers, at least one of them must be a young researcher.
Additionally, PROPOLAR may fund, up to a maximum of € 500 per project, for the participation of one young researcher in international scientific meetings to be held until September 2022. The applicant must present the work as first author, either as an oral or poster presentation.
