The story of an RAF squadron based in Kent as the Battle of Britain starts, focused around what happens to Baird, a new pilot who thinks he knows it all.

Made in 1952, this is unusual in showing a fairly view of the air force and the odds they were up against. Some really excellent shots from the pilot's perspective, in an air battle. You get a clear feel for how flimsy the planes were and the courage it took to get in the air time after time knowing you were outnumbered.

The acting is excellent all round, and the ending itself is very moving. I'm glad they didn't shy away from showing a happy ending - again this was realistic and it made the film more moving.
