We are so glad to hear that you are applying for a DTS at Holmsted Manor!
Holmsted Manor is located in West Sussex, a beautiful county in the south of England. We are in the countryside, surrounded by beautiful gardens and then fields. This is a wonderful place to have quality time with God. If you want to explore, we are about 20miles (30km) from the buzzing coastal city of Brighton and about 40miles (65km) from the mega-city and capital, London.
In addition to flights and visas, your DTS fees (lecture & outreach) cover most of your expenses. However, you will also have extra personal costs: toiletries, snacks, laundry, calls, traveller’s insurance and any additional vaccines that may be needed for the Outreach Phase. Please note: if you are applying from outside of the European Economic Area, then you will need to apply for a visa in your passport. This will be at an additional cost to you but we will assist in the process at the appropriate time.
A typical day in the Holmsted DTS is fairly intense! You will have at least 12 hours of teaching a week. Speakers are invited to come and teach on various topics such as grace, commitment, identity, the Father heart of God, the Holy Spirit, community, evangelism and missions. The afternoons and evenings are sometimes free but more often full with ministry times, serving around the base, worship, local outreaches (such as serving the homeless and working with local youth groups), outreach prep or fun activities. The weekends will include some time to rest but journals and book reports will need completing along with writing home, laundry, helping out around the house doing things like cooking meals and going to church.
Outreach locations will vary. We aim to do some outreach in the UK and some in a cross cultural setting. We have recently sent teams to Germany, Greece, Italy, France, Spain, South Africa, India. Our teams always do a portion of outreach somewhere in the UK and teams have visited Coventry, Manchester, Newcastle,Thanet, and Brighton. Outreach teams often consist of 7-10 people, so depending on the size of your DTS there could be several outreach teams. Within the first couple of weeks of the DTS the outreach options will be presented and you'll be given more information about how teams will be put together.
We hope this gives you an glimpse of what your DTS at Holmsted would be like!
