- Please ensure that your bike is fit for purpose, and that you are carrying a pump, at least one spare inner tube and a multi tool (preferably one that features a chain splitter)
- Mudguards are a really good idea when cycling in the winter, your club mates won't appreciate being showered in road filth! Appropriate mudguards are fitted with a generous rear mud flap which extends below the rear wheel spindle height. Normal etiquette suggests riders without mudguards should ride at the back of a group.
- Be safe, be seen. Always wear a helmet and appropriate clothing for the time of year. Have lights available should they be needed for the ride.
- "Shout out" the holes, and learn the signals that alert your fellow riders to any potential hazards (refer to the useful guide listed on this site).
- Don't jump red lights. Show maximum respect to all. Be courteous, both on, and off the bike.
- The group should always wait for riders who have a problem be it mechanical or otherwise. If it is a mechanical problem that cannot be resolved it is up to the rider concerned to find their way home. In the case of a rider who is clearly struggling the leader will either slow the pace or consult with the rider and ensure that if dropped they will be able to make their way home. (apart from riders under the age of 18)
- It should be appreciated that the leader is not always aware of the situation at the rear of the group. Riders towards the rear have a responsibility to keep the leader informed about riders who have any problem.
The club is affiliated to both "British Cycling" and "Cycling UK" (formerly Cycle Touring Club) and benefits from public liability and third party insurance, details of which can be found on their respective websites.
