  • Thank you for considering applying to stay at Braziers as a volunteer.

There are three things we ask you to consider before beginning your application:

    (1) Your right to be in the UK. It's your responsibility to ensure you are eligible to enter the UK if you are not a UK National.

    (2) Your mental health needs. As a community, we try to be inclusive and to accommodate people's mental health needs. To do this, we need to know if you have such needs, and so have included a question about this lower down on the application.

While we have a desire to be supportive, there are limits to how much we can do if people become unwell. For this reason, we ask all applicants to ask themselves – and perhaps talk it over with their friends or family too -- if they have the necessary support in place for their mental health conditions before they begin the application form. If you have specific mental health needs, consider if you will be able to look after yourself and meet those needs while you are here. Consider all this, and think about whether it is right for you, and for the community. Living in community can be rewarding, and at the same time, very challenging, with so many people living and working together, and so many new conditions and experiences. Most all of us go through emotional turbulence in the initial stages of moving into community, and even after being here a while. Sometimes the ideals and high hopes we project onto communities don't always come true.

    (3) Your ability to work five days a week. We understand that you may have pre-arranged commitments or unexpected events which arise which means you  need to leave for several days. We can usually accommodate such requests. But we need you to commit in principle to working five days out of seven each week.

If you can answer to yourself "Yes" to all three of these questions, then please complete the application form.

    • Legal Information
    • Crossing the UK Border
Please ensure you know what your rights are as a volunteer.

If you are not a UK National, you are individually responsible for knowing your own legal status, as well as getting yourself to and from Braziers Park.

    • Insurance

You may wish to look into obtaining travel/health insurance when visiting/volunteering the UK. Our National Health Service is becoming difficult to access and you may be asked for insurance or payment details before receiving medical treatment, particularly if not a UK Citizen.

Please note, however, that our public liability insurance covers you in the event of any accidents on our premises.

    • Volunteer Expectations & Photo Consent
We ask volunteers to contribute the following in an exchange of mutual benefit:

      • Willingness to volunteer for 30 hours per week, five days a week assisting in routine functions of communal living such as cooking, cleaning, maintaining, hosting and more.
      • Take responsibility for yourself and show initiative and helpfulness in volunteering for tasks and assisting others.
      • A desire to take an active role in community living; be prepared to share your skills and passions with others. Events and activities are self-organised, be prepared to take the lead if there's something you want to do together.
      • A good level of spoken English is essential to integration.
      • Be punctual and always do what you say you will (have integrity).
      • Speak out and speak up; own your truth and share what is alive for you. If there's something that needs to be said - say it. We're grateful for your honesty and feedback.
      • Treat the land, yourself, others and their belongings with diginity and respect.
      • (optional): Are you happy to appear in photos or promotional material concerning our organisation?
      • In return, we offer necessary training, an experience of community life, bed and board.
