The Lay Leadership Programme
Jewish Care is keen to engage the community with its work, and in particular to involve younger people in what we do. This will help Jewish Care to develop itself as an organisation and to contribute to development of the wider community and its future leaders.
Who is the Lay Leadership Programme for?
- People who are already showing a commitment to Jewish Care through their involvement in Young Jewish Care, as Young Patrons or by volunteering
- People who may have been part of a more global leadership programme and now wish to focus more closely on one organisation at a deeper level with the view to making a longer-term commitment
- People who want to learn about Jewish Care and are prepared to make a yearlong commitment
What will the participants gain from the programme?
- Experience first-hand why Jewish Care is so crucial to our community
- Get to know how Jewish Care works and functions as an organisation
- Understand the work of Jewish Care in the wider context of health and social care
- Gain a deeper and more meaningful relationship with Jewish Care and our people
Project Objectives
- To involve a diverse group of participants and create an inclusive project that is engaging and interactive
- To enable Jewish Care to learn from the participants, benefit from their energy and fresh insight and grow as an organisation
- To enhance the participants’ knowledge and understanding of various aspects of Jewish Care’s work, with the view to taking on lay-leadership roles now or in the future
- To involve the participants with our work through specific tasks and roles across the organisation (e.g. joining committees, running projects, become ambassadors for the organisation within the community)
- To ensure that once the programme ends, each participant has a follow up plan which is tailored to the individual’s areas of interest as well as the needs of Jewish Care
- Ultimately to ensure that our lay leadership continues to be of high calibre and has a depth of knowledge about our organisation and passion for our cause
Programme Information
The programme comprises a combination of briefings with Jewish Care’s key leadership and senior personnel and the chance to get to know some of our service-users through hands-on volunteering.
The setting of the sessions will change and will include various resources and locations across the organisation. This will give participants the opportunity to visit a number of our resources and meet a wide variety of our service users, volunteers, staff and lay-leadership.
The programme will begin on Sunday 12th November 2017 and run until Autumn 2018. Sessions will usually take place one Sunday a month, usually from 9.30am to 12:45pm. There will also be 2-3 evening sessions throughout the year plus the option to do some additional volunteering and attend some key events in the Jewish Care calendar.
Maximum number participants: 15
This is a special opportunity to take part in a unique programme and candidates will need to be able demonstrate that they would be fully committed to the programme, including a commitment to attend all sessions and actively participate throughout the year. Please note the deadline for application is Monday 2nd October and no applications will be accepted after this time.
