Dear Viking(s),
Thank you very much for wanting to be a part of the Gudvangen Viking Market 2020. We would like to inform you about a couple of things. This years market will be slightly different from previous editions of the Gudvangen Viking Market.
First and foremost, this year’s market will have a narrative and a theme. What do we mean by that? Well, we are creating a story, a reason, for you all to be here and set up your tents. The theme for the Gudvangen market this year is:
Burials and Burning Boats
An immersion into the Viking life by celebrating the dead.
That’s right, this year’s market will be a weeklong Funeral celebration, Viking style! (with the obvious exclusion of some obscurely creative and disturbing rituals thought up by our forefathers). There will be events, lectures and more woven into the narrative, and if you want you can be a part of it as well.
If you are still a bit unsure about what this all means, don’t worry, it will still be the Market you know and love, but enhanced with a narrative to make it a more engaging experience. You can (but don’t need to) help us out bringing the Viking age alive in a unique way by letting us know if you would be interested in contributing to the narrative. This can be done by simply answering questions by visitors in an appropriate manner, taking part in a small theatre play or maybe even more! We would love to hear your suggestions. More information about this will be provided throughout the months leading up to the festival too.
Besides this the market will be safely and soundly set against the beautiful backdrop of epic Gudvangen. We will provide a steady stream of information regarding the developments and details of the Viking market.
In short we offer:
- An immersive Viking market with lots of opportunity to entertain, craft or sell.
- Coffee and more.
- A Saturday evening feast (with open mic concerts).
- An opportunity to be part of an overarching narrative centring around a Viking funeral.
- Lot’s of fun and amazing memories!
We ask:
- Historical authenticity.
- An engaging attitude with the public.
- Contributions to the festival in form of entertaining, crafting, selling or otherwise.
In case your application is approved more information regarding all the aspects of the market will be provided to you as soon as possible afterwards. Make sure you read the Njardarheimr Essentials. Beware that the Njardarheimr Authenticity guide will follow soon and will be more restrictive than previous years before sending out your application.
For now, please fill out the form below and we hope to see you in Gudvangen! The Village is waiting for you.
Dearest regards straight out of Gudvangen,
The Njardarheimr team.
