Do you want to help save the planet, one festival at a time?
We are looking for volunteers who are full of energy, passionate about the environment and enjoy engaging with people on green issues. As a member of the Green Team you will receive a crew wristband, get to camp in crew camping with like-minded people where you will have access to hot showers and nice loos. This is an opportunity to gain valuable experience in the sustainable events field, and you are welcome to enjoy the festival when you are not volunteering.
Here are some of the tasks that you would undertake as a Green Team volunteer:
o Handing out recycling and compost bags to people on arrival and advising them of the green initiatives at the festival.
o Helping set up and manage recycling points.
o Helping set up and run the Eco-Campsites (where applicable)
o Spread the word about recycling rewards and give out raffle tickets and prizes.
o Initiate games and activities to encourage people to keep their camps tidy and take their recycling to the recycling points in the campsites.
o Showing people what bin to put their recycling and composting in.
o Help keep the recycling and compost bins free from contamination. You may also do some litter picking of recycling only around the roadway your bin’s stationed on (all equipment will be provided).
o Helping set up and operate the cup and bottle deposit return points in the arena.
o Offering green advice to other festival staff, concessions and stewards.
o Carrying out surveys.
o Encourage people to pack up their camping gear down and take it home at the end of the festival.
o Salvaging good quality reusable gear that’s left in the campsites, to go to charity and community organisations.
You need to be:
o Over 18 years at the time of the festival.
o Be willing to pay a shift deposit in advance which will be refunded within one month after the festival, assuming you complete your shifts.
o Have the right to work in the UK. If not an EU citizen (holiday work permits are OK).
o Available to work 24 hours, normally 4 x 6 hour shifts allocated by us, and available from the Wednesday before the event (for early bird volunteers) and 5pm Monday after the event. Please be advised that early bird volunteers will need to be onsite by 8pm on Tuesday before the festival and that the allocation of all shifts will be at the discretion of the Sustainability Coordinator.
