APPLICATION FORM – INDIVIDUALS AND FAMILIES
What is John Watson’s Trust?
John Watson’s Trust is a small Edinburgh-based charity that awards grants for educational purposes to children and young people under the age of 21 who have a physical or learning disability or who are socially disadvantaged. John Watson’s Trust is a charity registered in Scotland under charity number SC014004.
Where does John Watson’s Trust operate?
At present, we serve applicants based in Edinburgh, Midlothian, East Lothian or West Lothian. If you are applying from outside these areas, please note that owing to current funding conditions your application is unlikely to be successful. Applications from outwith Scotland are ineligible. We are unable to grant every application we receive, as we receive more applications that we have funds to fulfil, but we help wherever we can.
This form should be used for:
• applications made for a single young person aged 21 or under
• applications made for two or more young people looked after by the same family/carers
• applications for young people aged 21 or under in foster or kinship care
• applications for young people aged 21 or under who are refugees or asylum seekers
Although applicants can apply for grants of any size, most grants made to individuals by John Watson’s Trust will be in a range between £200 and £2000.
What does John Watson’s Trust fund?
• external tuition for young people with learning difficulties or who have missed part of their education for other reasons
• educational books/equipment of various kinds where family/carer income place these out of reach
• IT, laptops, iPads, readers and software (at present we are unable to consider applications for IT for Looked After and Accommodated young people in Council care).
• educational travel for individual young people, usually within Scotland (schools applying for help should use the separate School Trips application form in all cases)
What will I need to apply?
We will need you to supply us with a completed application form and:
• two written supporting references from people who can give as full a picture of the young person’s situation as possible – for instance, teachers, social workers, a GP.
• two copies of documents (no original documents please) that provide evidence of income, such as wage slips, benefit award letters
If you have any difficulties at all in completing the form, please do not hesitate to contact us.
