    This form aims to record the personal data of researchers who are part of the field missions of the Portuguese Polar Campaigns. The data collected will be stored and used in compliance with GDPR standards, aiming to comply with the management and coordination actions of research missions, in conjunction with partner entities and service providers, as well as in the promotion of PROPOLAR campaigns and project activities.

    PROPOLAR is not responsible for omissions or errors in the information here in provided by each researcher.

    If you have previously participated in a PROPOLAR campaign, DO NOT fill out this form without first confirming that you are already registered on this platform. If you are already registered, it may not be possible to register again. Follow these steps:

    1. Look for the edit link on your registration page or for the PROPOLAR Researcher ID (consisting of 19 numeric digits)
    2. Open the link to your personal page and make the necessary updates to your data sheet. If you don't find the direct link, use the path "https://www.jotform.com/edit/[id]" replacing the code '[id]' with your PROPOLAR registration ID (19 numeric digits). Alternatively, request your PROPOLAR Researcher ID by emailing info@propolar.org.

      PROPOLAR keeps a public listing of articles and other scientific publications, outputs from the Portuguese polar research activities, available online at http://www.propolar.org/publicaccedilotildees.html. We request all the PROPOLAR researchers to help us keeping this database updated, providing here a complete list of all your publications related to polar research, education and outreach. Alternatively, you may send a listing to the email info@propolar.org.

  • Based on the data you provide here, we note the following requirements regarding preparation for the PROPOLAR campaign - {nextPolar}, {signalizeThe} PROJECT {project1} :

    • Environmental Impact Assessment for Antarctic Activities (EIA ➚): declare to be aware of and respect the standards and commitments established internationally within Portugal's accession to the Antarctic Treaty and its Environmental Protocol, as well as agree to comply with all necessary procedures to access the Antarctic areas outlined in your mission plan.
    • Environmental impact Assessment for Antarctic Projects (EIA ➚): Any activity or action planned to be carried out in Antarctica is subject to an environmental impact assessment. The Agência Portuguesa do Ambiente (APA) is the entity responsible for the environmental certification of the Antarctic projects included in PROPOLAR campaigns. The evaluation request should be submitted by the project PI, following the instructions required on the online form HERE.
    • Antarctic Load : As part of an Iberian collaboration for polar research, Spain supports Portugal in shipping scientific cargo to Antarctica and back in vessel. PROPOLAR coordinates the standard land transport of this cargo from Portugal to the port of embarkation in Spain, and vice versa for the return. This process excludes sensitive materials or any other situation that does not fit into groupage and/or ship transport. Requirements for transporting project cargo:
      • Declaration (➚): Statement to request support for the shipping of scientific cargo to/from Antarctica, complying with the requirements of the Comité Polar Español (CPE).
      • Materials Discrimination (➚): Contents registration and labbeling documents in excel templates
    • Medical Certification - mandatory for researchers going to Antarctica (➚): All participants in Antarctic research campaigns are required to undergo a Medical Assessment recognized by PROPOLAR and the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT), and will only be able to start their mission after obtaining this certification. All the necessary guidance to complete this evaluation process is available HERE.
  • Further information will be provided on, if applicable:

    - Insurance policy - provide information about travel dates, logistics and potential hazards at least one month in advance before the start of the trip;

    - Garment and Gear - Schedule the equipment collection with the PROPOLAR team.
