FuturiZe (FZ) is a European project, co-funded by the Directorate-General of Justice and Consumers (DG JUST) at the European Commission, which will run from October 2018 to March 2020. The project will undertake a participatory foresight exercise to develop future scenarios around 4 addiction topics, and make a proposal to co-produce a strand of the 3rd European Conference on addictive behaviours and dependencies (LxAddictions19, 23-25 October 2019) on ‘the futures of addictions’.
FuturiZe will provide bursaries to support 120 professionals from a variety of sectors, who would otherwise not be able to attend LxAddictions19 in their travel, accommodation, and registration fee, allowing them to participate in the FZ debates on the futures related to 4 selected addictions topic.
The bursaries will be awarded with the following criteria in mind:
Input to the FZ participatory process:
FuturiZe scenarios consultation survey
is a prior requirement to the application process. Applicants who have not completed the survey wil be automatically discarded.
The scope and achievements of the academic and/or professional practice of the applicant in accordance with their career stage (even at early stages) and the opportunities afforded by their sector and/or home country context
Applications will be eligible from EU members and candidate countries, Russia, countries of the European Neighbourhood Policy framework, and other countries collaborating with EU countries on addiction policy issues.
Applicants from lower income (GDP less than 90% of the EU average), less research intensive countries, early career stages (within 4 years of obtaining the latest qualification) and stakeholder sectors with scarce resources to fund their attendance at such events will be prioritised for funding, if they fulfil the criteria for relevance, scope and achievements of academic and/or professional career and practice.
Engagement in LxAddictions19:
The potential for active engagement in the conference and/or Futures of Addiction strand will be prioritised and can be indicated, for instance, through the submission of an abstract to present at LxAddictions19 (in line with the requirements of scientific quality and formats of proposals), irrespective of whether the submission is accepted; or by a possible contribution to the future policy workshops, explained in your letter of motivation. Please note that the abstract submission deadline for LxAddictions19 runs until Monday 4th February 2019, late-breaking abstracts until 29th June.
The selection process will aim to ensure balance in stakeholder profiles, gender, career stage and geography, as far as is possible. Please bear in mind that documents supporting applications should be clear and self-explanatory to facilitate selection.
The deadline for applications is Monday 15th April 2019.
