    Modification of itinerary/objective

On High Hills Ltd. will endeavour to facilitate planned objectives/routes/goals with clients. However, if it is judged, in the opinion of the On High Hills Ltd. instructor, that the planned obective is not feasible/sensible on the day due to e.g. poor weather, then alternatives will be offered to the client, and a modified objective/plan reached by mutual consent. This applies if, for example, the weather forecast is too poor to consider the original/hoped for objective, but not extreme enough to require full cancellation (this latter case is covered below under "Cancellation by On High Hills Ltd").

    Use of other instructors

On High Hills Ltd is run by Jonty Mills, who provides the majority of instruction/guiding himself. However, at busy periods, we have a small group of similarly qualified instructors who work, as the need arises, for On High Hills Ltd. All such other instructors hold the appropriate Mountain Training UK qualifications relevant to the booked activity, and possess their own professional indemnity insurance. By accepting these Terms and Conditions you accept that another instructor may be required to work with you on your booking, either with or instead of Jonty Mills----you will be informed of this either at the time of booking or as soon as is practical prior to the start of the booking.

Cancellation by client-All cancellations must be received in writing by e-mail.

If cancellation is more than 4 weeks in advance of the booking, the client shall receive a full refund minus a £30 administration fee.

If cancellation takes place less than 4 weeks in advance, then the client shall either:

    a) For private guiding/instruction, receive a 50% refund.

    b) For scheduled trips, receive no refund, unless the place can be resold to another customer.

If cancellation takes place less than 2 weeks in advance, then no refund will be given.

Cancellation by On High Hills Ltd

Very occasionally On High Hills Ltd may have to take the decision to cancel the booking in light of mountain conditions, extreme weather or instructor injury/illness. This is an extremely rare event, but in the event of us having to cancel the client will be offered a full refund, or the opportunity to rebook on an alternative date, as they prefer. The client shall be informed of the need for cancellation as soon as is reasonably practical given the circumstances.

In the unlikely event of a scheduled trip not attracting the minimum number of clients to guarantee running, those booked will be informed no later than 4 weeks prior to the trip, and receive a full refund of monies paid.

The instructor may also refuse to continue with the activity if either the client has not brought the recommended kit with them (and thus may compromise their safety in the view of the instructor), or is not following safety advice. In these exceptional circumstances NO refund shall be given. Please ensure you have the recommended kit with you, and contact us beforehand if you envisage any problems with providing the correct gear.

    Cancellation due to COVID-19

We recognised the deep uncertainty that exists at present, both for you and for us. To encourage worry-free bookings rest assured THAT IF COVID-19 RESTRICTIONS REQUIRE THE CANCELLATION OF YOUR BOOKING, EITHER BY YOURSELF OR US, THEN ALL OUTSTANDING MONEY WILL BE REFUNDED IN FULL. THIS APPLIES EVEN IF THE CANCELLATION IS AT SHORT NOTICE, OR IF THE BOOKING HAS ALREADY BEGUN (E.G. FOR MULTI-DAY BOOKINGS).

  • Coronavirus (COVID-19) conditions

Coronavirus is a threat to us all, no matter where we go or what we do. However,  evidence suggests that outdoor activities may present a lower risk of virus transmission. On High Hills Ltd. will aim to follow advice from the Scottish Government, our insurers and professional body (Association of Mountaineering Instructors) on making our activities as safe as possible.

Activities will require a pragmatic and mutually agreed approach between clients and instructors. Some objectives may not be feasible. The dynamic nature of being in the mountains means that there may be occasions when ideal COVID-Secure practice (in, for example, social distancing) cannot be maintained e.g. to deal with an immediate safety concern that takes priority, difficult to manage terrain etc.

Clients are asked to agree to the below:

    1. To follow relevant Scottish Government guidance on Coronavirus, specifically that you will not travel to nor attend guiding/instruction with On High Hills Ltd. if you should be self-isolating according to national guidelines. Guidance on the specific symptoms and self-isolation measures are clearly available on the NHS Inform website.

    2. To bring with them, in addition to the "normal" kit required for the activity, the following items for personal use, in an effort to minimise sharing of items:

    Hand sanitiser (small bottle)

    Face-covering or mask

    Food & drink

    Suncream, midge-repellent

Small personal first aid kit (e.g. plasters, medications etc)

Any technical equipment that them own themselves e.g. harnesses, belay plates, trekking poles etc

    3. To answer a health-symptom questionnaire immediately prior to the booking date. This is available on our website here (see the "Bookings" tab) or can be sent to you if required. This should be completed no greater than 72 hrs prior to the booking start date, and ideally the day before so as to be up-to-date. If there are problems doing this do not hesitate to contact us, but please be aware that bookings cannot proceed without this form being completed.
