  • Site Readiness

  • In order for us to carry out testing, please ensure that all of the following criteria are met prior to arrival.  Please note that during the testing nobody will be able to enter or leave the building.

  • Is building work complete?
  • Is there 240V or 110V power available in the dwelling?
  • Are walls drylined and plastered?
  • Is second fix plumbing (including toilets, sinks, showers, radiators etc) complete?
  • It is worth noting that air leakage is prevalent around bath panels and pipe work. With this in mind it would be advantageous to ensure that these are sealed using a silicone sealant.

  • Is second fix electrical (including electrical sockets and extractors) complete?
  • Are loft hatches and access doors fitted and well sealed?
  • Are skirting boards sealed using a silicone sealant?
  • Will water traps be filled with water?
  • External windows and doors will be fitted and can be closed?
  • Each property has a suitable external door with an opening between 0.7m and 1.13m in width and a maximum height of 2.39m:
  • Is there a fireplace or chimney flue?
  • Adequate lighting is available, particularly in the test area?
  • There will be unhindered access to the dwelling and a clear space to work around the external door area?
  • Are there suitable welfare facilities on site?
  • Should a test fail it may be necessary for you to carry out remedial works in order to retest the dwellings. With this in mind, please ensure any remedial materials, labour and tools are on site. Silicone sealant is most commonly required.

It is at the test engineer's discretion to decide if retests are to be completed on the day.

  • Please confirm there will be labour and materials onsite for remedial work:
  • Temporary Sealing

  • It is the responsibility of the client/main contractor to install any temporary seals before air testing can be carried out. These include bathroom and kitchen extractors, air supply grilles, mechanical ventilation devices, passive stack ventilation systems and trickle vents. This can be achieved using masking tape or similar.

If applicable, chimney flues will also need to be temporarily sealed by means of expandable balloon. We can provide these, however we need to be aware prior to our arrival.

  • Please confirm that temporary seals will be in place before the engineer arrives on site:
  • With the exception of devices listed above, nothing else is to be sealed with tape. Any other temporary seals are listed as a deviation by ATTMA and will be recorded on your test certificate, deeming the result non-compliant.

A list of ATTMA-approved temporary seals can be found here

  • Please confirm that only ATTMA approved temporary seals will be in place:
