    Your health & safety & the health and safety of others is paramount while operating on the Ocean Pier Terminal.

    Any suggestions you may have for improving safety are always welcome.

    Failure to follow site rules, regulations & instructions may lead to exclusion.

    Stop work authority (SWA) is a Health & Safety program that gives workers, contractors & hauliers the authority and responsibility to stop work if they observe unsafe conditions or behaviours on site. We encourage the use of SWA's if and when neccessary, while on  the terminal at DSG. " Well all make the difference"

    WEAR YOUR PPE

    All 3rd parties entering the port facilities must wear the appropriate personal protective equipment at all times.

    3rd parties are responsible for their own personal protective equipment.

    A floatation device must be used within 1.5 meters of any quay wall.

    • PROTECTIVE FOOTWEAR

    These must be worn at all times on the terminal and on board any vessels.

    Do's

    • Always wear PPE while on the terminal - Safety Boots, High Visibility Clothing & Hard Hat must be worn at all times.
    • Vehicle registration must be displayed on the roof of the tractor unit.
    • Always adhere to the 20kph speed limit.
    • Ensure all twist locks are open prior to entering the RTG runway.
    • Adjust trailer size and locks prior to entering the RTG runway.
    • Always remove earpieces or headsets when outside of truck cab.
    • Always follow the traffic management system on the terminal & use the specified routes identified by road markings and signage and STOP at all STOP signs.
    • Driver must always stand in front of the truck, between the yellow & white lines whilst being unloaded / loaded by an RTG (Rubber Tyred Gantry Crane).
    • Always use designated walkways in terminal which are identified by yellow markings.
    • Always use the designated toilets within the terminal.
    • All drivers / mechanics & visitors accessing DSG Container Terminal or any of the satelite trailer yards must have a DSG issued Dublin Port Pass.

    • Never cut across the RTG wheelset runways while driving in the vicinity of a stationary or moving RTG.
    • Never take any short cuts through the RTG stacks while driving or walking, please always use the lanes & walkways provided.
    • Never walk across any of the RTG wheelset runways, which are clearly marked in red.
    • Never walk inside the RTG stacking area.
    • Never stop or park on a RTG runway.
    • Never walk in-between the truck / trailer and RTG wheelset at any time.
    • Never walk in-between the truck & stacks whilst the RTG spreader is still locked into the unit.
    • Never walk in front or behind any of the machinery operating in the terminal.
    • While being unloaded / loaded by reach stacker, you must remain in the tractor unit.
    • No parking is permitted on the terminal at any time.
    • Smoking is not permitted in the stacks - Flammable & Hazardous chemicals are stored on quay
    • No truck breaks are permitted on the terminal at any time.
    • Not following terminal rules / instructions, could lead to exclusion.

    Truck Driver Procedure - RTG Stack Area - Please scroll to the end

    • Ensure all twist locks are open prior to entering the RTG runway.
    • Adjust trailer size and locks prior to entering the RTG runway.
    • Always follow the one way system of traffic in the RTG stacks. No U-Turns are allowed.
      • Reversing is only permitted within the stacks when collecting from the reefer gantries in locations A14, B10, C10 & D10.
    • Never drive down the quay wall towards STS crane unless escorted by DSG personnel.
    • Always exit truck cab on container side. Never into RTG wheelset runway.
    • Always stand in front of truck cab between the yellow line & stack/bay in full view of the RTG cab, whilst units are being loaded & unloaded.
    • Always be mindful of terminal equipment, cranes and other haulage in the vicinity whilst standing in front of the truck cab.
    • Be aware of mobility beacons, alarms & signals generated by cranes & terminal equipment.
    • Never stand or walk on the RTG runway
    • Never walk in between the truck / trailer and RTG wheelset at any time.
    • Never walk in between the truck and stack whilst the RTG spreader is still locked into the unit.
    • Never return to the truck cab whilst RTG spreader is still locked into unit.
    • Verification of position of unit on chassis and securing of onside locks permitted after RTG spreader has disengaged from unit and only when safe to do so.
    • Securing of remainder of twistlocks must be completed after you have exited the RTG runway and in the set down area provided.
    • Failure to follow any of these procedures may result in exclusion from the terminal.

    Truck Driver Procedure - Collections from Reefer Gantries

    • Only enter the reefer gantry from RTG runway side and when safe to do so.
    • Be aware of any trip or slip hazards.
      • Stairs may become slippy after inclement weather.
      • Reefer cables may be hanging or left on ground.
    • Isolate power at source prior to unplugging cables from the unit.
      • Ensure all units on top of selected unit are unplugged as well as selected unit.
    • Always return to front of Truck Cab between the yellow line & stack/bay in full view of the RTG cab prior to units being loaded.
    • Failure to follow any of these procedures may result in exclusion from the terminal.

    In the Event of Adverse Weather Conditions

    • Always adhere to and be receptive to intructions from terminal personnel.
      • Requests to remove truck and person from the stacks.
      • Requests to remove truck and person from the terminal.

    Such instructions will be made to help prevent incident and practice safety.

    BEWARE OF MOVING MOBILE PLANT / EQUIPMENT

    Mobile plant (RTG's, forklifts, Reach-stackers, Tug's & trailer trains) operate on the terminal.

    Keep to designated routes & walkways, be aware of their movement and give right of way to them at all times.

    Never presume that a driver is aware of your presence.
