ELIGIBILITY AND CONDITIONS OF ENTRY

Only EACU players are eligible to play in any section of this congress. An EACU player is one who &#13;&#10;(i) currently lives in, or &#13;&#10;(ii) has for a consecutive 5 year period lived in, or (iii) is currently a student at a school, college or university in, or &#13;&#10;(iv) was born in, or &#13;&#10;(v) is currently a member of a club in or affiliated to, Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Hertfordshire, Norfolk or Suffolk.&#13;&#10;&#13;&#10;In all matters, the Chief Arbiter’s decision shall be final.&#13;&#10;&#13;&#10;It is a condition of entry that players agree to their rating information being published on the English Chess Federation (ECF) and EACU websites. &#13;&#10;&#13;&#10;The Organisers reserve the right to transfer players from one section to another or to refuse entry to any player without giving any reason, and to merge sections and/or to increase or reduce the prize fund and its distribution depending upon entries. &#13;&#10;&#13;&#10;A junior is a player born on or after 1 January 2007. &#13;&#10;&#13;&#10;Any player arriving more than 30 minutes later than the scheduled start time for any round will be defaulted that game, and their opponent re-paired if possible.&#13;&#10;&#13;&#10;Mobile phones must be switched off in the playing area. Mobile phones and other electronic devices, eg smart watches, must not be on a player’s person, or moved by them, at any time during their game.  Any player whose mobile phone makes any sound during play, or who is found to be in possession of any device capable of suggesting chess moves, will be defaulted that game.&#13;&#10;&#13;&#10;All ECF Bronze Members or non-ECF Members have to pay a £15.00 surcharge. This upgrades Bronze membership to Gold membership, and for non-members represents the ECF’s ‘pay to play’ fee. All juniors who are not ECF members are encouraged to take out Gold ECF membership for £12.00 (or free for their first year). Junior Bronze Membership is £6 (or free for their first year). The ECF’s Junior ‘pay to play’ fee is also £6.&#13;&#10;&#13;&#10;No player may win more than one monetary prize. Unrated players may not win a rating prize or become Under-1950 or Under-1650 champions, and any monetary prize won by an unrated player in the Under-1950 or Under-1650 sections will be subject to a 50% deduction. Ratings used for entry will be those at November 2024. Prizes and pairings will use the January 2025 rating list.&#13;&#10;&#13;&#10;In the event of ties, all monetary prizes will be shared equally, but the Championship Titles will be determined by sums of progressive scores, and if that is equal, average opponents’ rating, and if that is then equal the toss of a coin.&#13;&#10;

The event will be subject to any COVID restrictions in force at the time. Anyone displaying symptoms of, or testing positive for, COVID-19 should inform the Chief Controller and must not attend.
