The International Society of Nephrology Renal Pathology Working Group seeks applications from nephropathologists in developing countries for travel bursaries. Four monetary awards will be made. Each award will be up to a maximum value of $1500. The bursaries may be used to support one of the following three options:
-
Mini-sabbatical to provide short term in-depth study of renal pathology by immersion in an established renal pathology laboratory. It is anticipated that the short term attachment will be for a period of 2-4 weeks. The applicant should state which laboratory they would like to attend and include a letter of agreement from the host laboratory with their application.
-
Attendance at a major renal pathology course (see below). There is up to one award per course. The organizers of these courses have kindly offered to waive the registration fee for the recipient of an ISN Nephropathology bursary.
- Remote internet-based access to live streaming of the presentations during the first three days of the Columbia University Renal Pathology Course, 10-12 July, 2020. On line access to audiovisual recordings of the presentations will also be provided for one month following the course. (This option is not a monetary award).
Eligibility criteria:
-
Applicants should already have fundamental knowledge in renal pathology, and should be involved in, or have the opportunity to become involved in, diagnostic evaluation of renal biopsy specimens.
-
Nephrologists are ineligible for these awards unless they are responsible for the official pathologic evaluation of renal biopsy specimens at their home institution.
- Nephropathologists from developed countries are ineligible. For reference, please consult the World Bank's classification list and note that all 'high income' countries are ineligible.
Applications should be submitted electronically by the deadline of December 13, 2019. Please address any questions to isnprograms@theisn.org.
Note: The bursaries will provide support for travel/accommodation expenses. The successful applicants will receive the award following the minisabbatical/course on presentation of receipts for these expenses and a brief report on their experience.
