CONTEMPORARY DEVOTIONAL JEWELS
AGC Associazione Gioiello Contemporaneo, in collaboration with Dr. Elena Alfonsi, scholar of History of Art Criticism and an expert in Thanatology, propose to designer-makers working in the jewellery field, to create a contemporary piece inspired by Devotional Jewellery, entailing a connection to the spiritual aspects of freedom of worship through one's creativity.
Each artist should present take into consideration the "theme of LOSS" intended as sudden, total and permanent absence (as embodied, for example, in the mourning jewellery of Victorian times).
The works should take inspiration from the past while also embracing innovation and observing the spirit of research embodied in contemporary jewellery.
The works will be selected by Dr. Mirella Cisotto Nalon, former Head of Cultural Services for the city of Padua, and Dr. Elena Alfonsi.
This will be the first exhibition in Italy to focus on contemporary devotional jewellery and it will be travelling during 2022, with dates to be confirmed and venues such as:
- Padova Oratorio di San Rocco;
- Firenze, in collaborazione con LAO Le Arti Orafe;
- Livorno, Museo di Storia Naturale del Mediterraneo;
- Mantova, Complesso Museale di Palazzo Ducale.
Conferences
To complement the exhibition, meetings dedicated to the theme of Devotional Jewellery in its broadest sense would be organised, to be held in different institutional spaces, on dates to be agreed.

SELECTION CRITERIA
Each author can create a maximum of 2 works.
In order to demonstrate innovation in the use of materials, techniques, the making process and the structure of the work, the jewellery must:
- be innovative;
- possess technical quality;
- possess fundamental value as an object of research;
- be wearable.

The aim will be that of exhibiting a wide variety of styles, techniques and materials, including gold and silver.

SENDING IMAGES AND INFORMATION
Please fill-in the following FORM by no later than 30st November 2021.You will be required to fill-in an online form to send images and information.
There will be no fee to take part in this event.
Your personal data will only be used by the team for the purposes of this event and will not be disclosed to others.

The images used must be as follows:
- Front (required)
- Back (required)
- Of the piece being worn (optional)
- Video (optional)
FORMAT: JPG 300dpi, minimum size 15cm on one side.
The images must be in high resolution, with a neutral background, preferably white. You must avoid backgrounds such as grass, flowers, stones, rocks and any fanciful background.
SELECTION
Selection will be made by 31st January 2022.
An email will be sent to selected candidates by February 2022.
Selected candidates will be emailed with details on where to send the works after this date.
SHIPPING
For the shipment of the works it is required:
- that you use a plastic box (such as a food box), proportionate in size to its content, which guarantees safe protection and allows the volume for transport to be reduced to a minimum.
- The same container will be properly stored and reused to return the work.
We also require:
that you INSERT in the package, only a sheet only your name and surname and delivery address.
DO NOT INSERT business cards or other material unless previously agreed.
The forward shipping costs will be borne by the participant and for the return of the work the costs will be borne by the AGC Association.
There is no form of insurance relating to shipments in the project; any insurance is the responsibility of the participant.
The exhibited works can be put up for sale upon specific agreement with Dr. Elena Alfonsi.
AGC will not deal with sales.
CATALOGUE
A catalogue will be published, each author will have a page and a photograph with name, title of the work, technique, materials, year, size and web or email address.
DISCLOSURE OF PHOTOGRAPHIC MATERIAL
Photographic reproductions of all the jewellery on display may be used in communication through: printed material, social media, websites, AGC and in the advertising campaign.
Consent will be given at the time of registration.
Please also indicate the photo credits - granted free of charge - also declaring that you are the owners of the Copyright and of the photographs that AGC will be authorized to use by reporting the author's name and surname.
The online submission of the DOCUMENTATION FORM will imply adherence to the aforementioned points.

Mirella Cisotto
Laureata in Lettere all’Università di Padova col massimo dei voti e la lode, ha conseguito un Master in Archeologia all’Università Cà Foscari di Venezia e un perfezionamento post-lauream in Didattica Generale e Museale all’Università di Roma Tre. Organizza eventi culturali, cura mostre d'arte, si occupa della valorizzazione del patrimonio storico-artistico-ambientale, collabora con diverse realtà istituzionali cittadine. E’ specialista in gioielleria contemporanea di ricerca e autrice di numerose pubblicazioni su temi storico-artistici. Attraverso l'arte si occupa di problematiche ambientali e della questione animale. Capo Settore Cultura, Turismo, Musei e Biblioteche del Comune di Padova sino al 2016 ha ideato la rassegna di gioielleria contemporanea Pensieri preziosi, il Premio internazionale Mario Pinton, portando a Padova i più importanti artisti internazionali con l’obiettivo di fare della Città un centro internazionale di eccellenza del gioiello d’Autore. Durante il servizio presso il Comune si è occupata di conservazione e valorizzazione del patrimonio storico-artistico, di promozione ed educazione alla tutela e conoscenza dei beni culturali, di programmazione e cura di eventi e mostre d'arte, della promozione turistica del territorio, di attività amministrativa, di fund raising e di gestione del personale. Ha promosso e curato i iniziative di grande rilevanza per la città (es:Notturni d'Arte, mostra Giotto e il suo tempo, Sala multimediale della Cappella degli Scrovegni, rassegna Cuori sulla Terra, i Pomeriggi d'Arte, le Domeniche al Museo). E' ideatrice del progetto educativo Impara il Museo, riconosciuto come eccellente dal Consiglio d’Europa e dal Ministero della Funzione Pubblica. Relatrice a convegni e corsi di formazione, ha tenuto docenze ed è stata membro di giuria di concorsi internazionali. Cavaliere della Repubblica dal 2011, è stata insignita nel 2018 della nomina di “Padovana eccellente”. Fa parte del Comitato scientifico per la progettazione museale del Castello carrarese di Padova. Attualmente è Capo Delegazione del FAI (Fondo Ambiente Italiano) di Padova e Consigliere generale della Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Padova e Rovigo.
Elena Alfonsi
Laureata in Storia della Critica d'Arte all'Università degli Studi di Padova scrive dal 1992 come Critica d'Arte. Dal 2018 è Presidente dell'Associazione Culturale Areté. Dal 1992 al 1997 a Milano è Consulente Scientifica per le acquisizioni della collezione privata appartenuta al Dott. Giorgio Cappricci. Dal 1992 al 1999 è a Venezia come Consulente Scientifica in una Collezione Privata. Abita a Mantova ed è Critica d'Arte indipendente diplomata in Tanatologia Culturale al Master Death Studies & the End of Life - Dipartimento FISPPA - Università degli Studi di Padova. Si occupa di arte, cultura e Death Education attraverso la pittura, la scultura, la fotografia, la letteratura, la poesia. E’ scrittrice, ideatrice di progetti didattico–culturali, di progetti di responsabilità etica a sostegno della cultura, di laboratori didattico formativi per un corretto approccio all’arte. Dal 2017 organizza a Mantova, nella prestigiosa sede della Casa del Mantegna una Rassegna di Cultura intitolata Alla fine dei conti. Riflessioni sulla vita e sulla morte. Dal 2018 promuove il Progetto “La morte nell’Arte. La cultura veicolo di sviluppo”. Dall’A.A. 2019/2020 è Docente Esterna di Storia dell'Arte e Storia della Critica d'Arte alla Accademia Internazionale dell'Intaglio a Bulino e Belle Arti di B. Cerboni Bajardi a Urbino.
